So, trying this format out for the first time. Futura has the luxury of too many performers, with a diverse taste in music, but one that I can always trust will be forward thinking and bass-centric. We’re all familiar enough with each other’s tastes, and in what makes a good set. SO with that in mind, we’re doing a DJ free for all, playing off each other’s styles, and will hopefully create the best set in history. That, or its going to be a total shit show, but it’s a win/win situation, right? How else to welcome in the spring (technically its spring now, though its felt like it since november, just with less leaves).

So without further ado, the cast of characters.

The summer is over, but that doesn’t mean we’re planning on slowing down to calling it quits. Catch futura residents Sylvermayne and Sidenote team up with the Deep North crew to play a night of eclectic house music with a futura twist played to a small busy room with a big sound system. How things should be done.

Well, its the last Futura for the summer. For this night, we’ve invited a (nearly) all girl line-up to come play. Archi-textures will be returning with September, and Futura go back to running only the last Thursday of every month at the Augusta house. Its been a fun summer, and with the fall, you’ll see us diversify and decentralize. Our fall plans seem considerably different from the summer line-ups. Focusing on a variety of events in different venues, working alongside other promoters.

I hate to single out the night as “all women” for fear of alienating Hawri, but none the less, we’ve got a night highlighting the women of our community.

Local wunderkinds KEVIN McPHEE and BWANA have been making names for themselves globally. In a short period, KEVIN McPHEE has signed to Naked Lunch, and made a huge name for himself. His production is crisp, bubbly, ethereal. His DJing brings together a melange of classic house, garage, dubstep (the kind without skeletor poses), and techno. His sound progresses madly, and provokes gyration. BWANA, with less than a year under his belt producing, has quickly found his own sound, and found support and admiration in others. Signed to Montreal based label Infinite Machine, we’ll see the release of two EPs of his this year. Unfortunately, he won’t be a denizen of Toronto much longer, with an impending move to the UK at the end of the month. See him now while he’s here!

For July 28th we’re lucky to have TASC come and perform for FUTURA for the first time. Playing before him, we’ve got Kismet founder and Archi-Textures head dBOOM playing his signature style of glitchy bass music. Closing the night, BLOODY-L returns to FUTURA, and of course, opening the night we’ve got FUTURA resident CAPRO keeping it deep, rolling, vibing, and melodic.
